Geopresent's NFC (Near Field Communication) and Android phones based  can be used to track assets and deploy indoor tracking solutions. The prototype is currently available on Android NFC enabled phones.

NFC technology is a sub-centimeter range technology (very similar to RFID ) and offers a simple solution in the following domains

• Equipment Tracking ( anything worth some value that can be lost or misplaced )
• Indoor tracking of personnel 

The NFC based solution supports both asset and location tags and can be seamlessly integrated with the phantomEye platform as add-on allowing seamless co-existence with other tracking solutions. Tag scan data can be pushed via the web in real time into third party inventory control systems. Tag scan events can be set to raise alerts allowing for real time tag scan notifications especially useful for security solutions.

Problems that can be solved with NFC Asset Tracking

• Tracking of mobile assets as carried by utility companies, electricians, plumbing and other maintenance companies. Typically these companies carry a few thousand dollars worth of equipment in their vehicles.  Once the equipment is out of the company store it is hard to track when the equipment changes hands in the field. With NFC, a point of use scan of the asset will keep the allocation fresh and reallocation will be a simple scan by the new owner.
•  Maintenance companies that service equipment at remote sites like fire fighting equipment, electrical fixtures, generators and pumps etc can make use of NFC to track in real time the access and duration at each specific equipment. Ability exists within NFC solution to customise the solution to open of relevant forms and documents based on the scan so that the field technician has immediate access to all that is needed.
•  Large indoor ware houses, shopping centers, airports etc have a lot of security personnel deployed. Real time tracking and location of personnel is now possible with NFC. NFC tags can be placed at each door and access way and all that is required is scan. Each scan updates the location of the personnel allowing the command center to exactly know the deployment of personnel. The solution can also address problems of locating personnel and equipment-on-wheels in hospitals and other large facilities.
